This is a Sentinel piece of fiction. I do not own these characters, or make money or other profit off these stories. This story is rated G, but still contains a m/m relationship. I also do not own the rights to the songs used, or the soundtrack of the movie Footloose off which they came.I just heard these songs and thought of them. They just seemed to fit so well. Sorry to force my musical tastes on you. I'm sorry if I copied the lyrics wrong (some of the Loggin's song was fuzzy). You can skip the lyrics if you want, but they do fit the people here in.
Jim finds Blair some songs
Jim turned his attention to the song on the radio. That was it, the perfect song for Sandburg. He copied down the title and artist and put the paper in his pocket; he would go at lunch to find a copy for his lover.

Blair pulled into his parking spot at the loft. It had been one of the worst days in his life. First the school's computer system crashed; then the fire alarm during the test that lasted all through the class. Then his Volvo needed a jump. Now he had to fix dinner, great. He hoped Jim wouldn't mind take-out, and paying for it. He walked through the door to see the table set, candles lit, heard the music playing; everything for a romantic night. "Oh, man, did I forget something?" He didn't think he had forgotten a special day, but one never knew with the day he was having. They had only been lovers for a few months, but Blair didn't remember a special thing connected with today. He kissed Jim, hoping the taller, studly man wouldn't mind his forgetfulness.
"Nope." Jim helped Blair take off his coat and sat him in a chair at the table. "Just wanted to do this." //Perfect timing,// Jim thought to himself, //It looks like he's had a bad day. He could use these songs.// Jim got up and replaced the Earth music CD with the tape he had made just for Blair. Then Jim came back to sit beside and cuddle his lover. "I found some songs that just reminded me of you."
"Wow, you made a tape for me? Nobody's ever done anything like that before." Blair leaned his head onto Jim's shoulder. "This is so special, Jim. Thank you." Jim took his hand while the first song started, Bonnie Tyler's Holding out for a Hero.
Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the gods. Where's the street-wise Hercules to fight the rights in us.
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed, Late at night I toss, and I turn, and I dream of what I need. I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night. He's gotta be strong, and He's gottta be fast, and He's gotta be fresh from the fight.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero till the morning and light. He's gotta be sure, and He's gotta be smooth, and He's gotta larger than life.
Some where after midnight, in my wildest fantasies, Some where just beyond my reach, and some one's reaching back at me. Racing on the thunder, and rising with the heat, It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night He's gotta be strong, and He's gottta be fast, and He's gotta be fresh from the fight.
I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero till the morning and light. He's gotta be sure, and He's gotta be smooth, and He's gotta larger than life. I need a hero. I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night Up where the mountains meet the heavens above, out where the lightning strikes the sea, I can swear there is some one some where watching me.
Through the wind and the chill and the rain, and the storm and the flood, I can feel his approach like a fire in the blood.
I'm holding out for a hero till the end of the night "That just sounds like us at work," Jim told Blair, planting a soft kiss on his cheek.
"You're definitely my larger than life hero, oh Blessed Protector. Both on the job and off." Jim barely heard the whispered comment coming from his shoulder.
"The next one is us the rest of the time. It seems to suit our recent lives pretty well." Jim had left a space between songs, so he could tell Blair about the songs and what they meant to him. The second song, I'm free by Kenny Loggins starts and Jim plays his hands through Blair's hair, smoothing out the tension from the day.
Looking into your eyes I know I'm right. 'Cause anything worth my love is worth the fight.
We only get one chance, and nothing ties the hand. You're what I want, listen to me, Nothing I want's outta my reach. I'm free.
Heaven helps the man Who fights his fears. Love's the only thing that keeps me here.
You're the reason that I'm hanging on, My heart's staying where my heart belongs. I'm free!
Running away will never make you free. And nothing I say will ever be any kind of guarantee. I want to hold you now, I won't hold you down. Shaking the past, Making my breaks, Taking control, That's what it takes. You're what I want, Listen to me. I'm free!
Heaven helps the man Who fights his fears. Love's the only thing that keeps me here.
You're the reason that I'm hanging on, My heart's staying where my heart belongs. I'm free!
I want to hold you now, I won't hold you down. You're what I want, Listen to me. I'm free!
Heaven helps the man Who fights his fears. Love's the only thing that keeps me here.
You're the reason that I'm hanging on, My heart's staying where my heart belongs. I'm free! (chorus played thrice).
"The rest of the tape are just songs that made me smile when I thought about you."
Blair looks up at Jim with love shining out of his eyes. "I love it. This. You." Blair lets his love show with a deep kiss. "Can dinner wait? I want to show you how special this is to me."
"Just take-out." Jim blows out the candles and they go upstairs, holding hands all the way. Once there, Blair showed Jim exactly how much the music meant to him.
